Thanks to Moe and a comment she made on our Door County trip I decided to create a perennial garden in my backyard! It all started when Moe pointed out a house in DC with the tiniest garden she had ever seen. I've always wanted to put more flowers in my patio area but I just kept putting it off. I think the problem was that I couldn't picture how it would look. After DC I had great flower garden layouts in my head! Soooo.... Sunday in terrible heat (100) I decide to go looking for good deals in perennials. I bought some great plants at a store near me called Every Bloomin' Thing but I didn't have time to plant because of a party I was going to so I just put them in the patio area where they would be living. Monday it was still terribly hot and humid so I watered them down and kept them in the patio shade. On Tuesday after the library I planted them all! I looked like a crazed gopher trying to get them all in before this huge storm rolled in, I kept one eye on the dark clouds rolling and one eye on the dirt! Even Molly was all a twitter! She had to inspect every plant and it's new home! At one point I caught her walking around with a "Hen and Chick" in her mouth. Keep in mind that up to this point Molly never walked in the dirt area of the garden. She always stayed on the concrete patio. Now every morning she goes out and sniffs each plant - maybe she wants to make sure they haven't moved.
Here's the before and after pics. Can you tell the difference?

Fabulous Winnie!!! I don't think I've ever inspired anyone to plant a perennial garden before! Cool!! Your small perennial garden will keep you and Molly entertained for years!
Winnie, I'm glad you got your little babies in the ground before heatstroke. Water, water, water, but then again.... on a day like today, I guess we don't have to worry about that.
