August 12, 2005

Well, it's been a while since I updated this site. I've been a little busy - took 3 classes, celebrated my birthday, took a mini-vacation picked up 4 quilts and finished the binding on two quilts!
Mmy mini-vacation was totally planed out by my faux-sister Geri. We always like to do a combination celebration for our birthdays so this time we went to Cedarburg, Wisconsin. A group of 8 Quilter friends (Moe, Geri, Gail, Dee, Cathy, MaryRita and Cathy D.) went to two shops. The first shop, Cedarburg Woolen Mill, was featured on Simply Quilts because the lady had a wool carding machine from 1860. She makes wool quilt batts and has a quilt shop. I bought a little woolen lamb as a souvenir, the shop makes these little creatures too! Next we went to Ye Olde Schoolhouse - an 1887 school building. We went nuts in this store! They had KITS, candles, great fabrics, and cute little folk art items all through the place. It was a quilters version of a scavenger hunt and I felt like the treasure GUIDE. I kept finding items for everyone to buy. We did not get to see Chloe the quilt dog but maybe we can use that as our excuse for going back. If you get a chance to see the two shops and the town of Cedarburg.... GO, GO, GO! You won't regret it! We also stopped in Mequon (I'm not sure of the spelling because it was the surprise part of the trip and I wasn't paying attention because I was driving - LOL!). If you are close to this little town stop in at their McDonald's. It is all done with a French theme. Very comfy (why can't other McD's look like this!)

We left this store and went on to the premier event of the day - Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Textiles. We had lunch in an 1850's barn (eventually their museum home) with home cooking served on China with crystal! The ladies put on a quilt show for us that was the BEST! All historical quilts!!! We all took picture after picture. It was such a great trip - all part of my birthday weekend! I even had a NASCAR highlight- when we stopped at a Wisconsin gas station for a fill-up I found a whole section of NASCAR stuff - in a gas station! You just don't see that around here!
