Interesting evening! I came home about 3PM - after buying the quilt issue of Pieceworks - hit the garage door button, pulled in, hit the button again and nothing! In those tiny seconds of time the electricity went out! I called the village, and ComEd to report the outage. The automated response said it would be on at 7PM so I used the available light and did my bills, etc. Upstairs was too hot so I mostly stayed downstairs. About 6 I put Molly in the car and off we went to the bank and other errands. I wanted to take advantage of the AC in the car. Molly was very happy about that idea. As we drove home - about 7:15 - I told Molly that if the power was still off we would go for ice cream. Sure enough - the garage door wouldn't go down so off we went to Chick's for Rainbow Cones. We even picked up Geri so she could help us celebrate "No Electric Night"! Molly and I got home about 7:45 - still no lights! The neighborhood was very surreal. People were walking around dazed and confused! But Molly and I were having a blast talking to everyone! We seldom see many of these people because they are not dog owners so they don't go out except to go to work! At one point as the trucks and crews were slowly rolling through the neighborhood turning on the lights Molly and I were out there cheering the guys on! It was cool ....... because you knew there was an end to it..... not days of no lights or uncertainty.
The negative side - tonight was the premiere of Dale: The Movie on CMT. I managed to see the last 30 to 40 minutes of the movie and let me tell you it was heartbreaking! The scenes of Richard Childress and Dale Jr. were filled with sadness and loss. I really felt you could see pain in the faces of Kelly and Dale Jr. This is a very different than the movie 3 -The Dale Earnhardt Story - this movie IMHO shows the impact Dale's death had on his family and fans. It also gives a more personal insight into Dale, the man and the driver!
